SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) is South Africa’s foremost open-access journal database, dedicated to advancing scholarly communication within the research community. Managed by the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) and supported by the Department of Science and Technology, SciELO SA offers a comprehensive collection of peer-reviewed South African journals that are both free to access and publish. This initiative aims to enhance the evaluation and accreditation of scholarly journals in South Africa, aligning local research efforts with international standards.

Since its establishment as part of the global SciELO Network, SciELO SA has worked to promote visibility for the scientific achievements of developing countries. Its user-friendly online platform features multilingual interfaces in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, allowing users to easily browse or search through an extensive archive of scientific articles. With specialized bibliometric tools, the platform provides insightful statistics on article usage and impact, further enhancing the assessment of scientific output.
