Iraq Body Count

Iraq Body Count (IBC) is a vital initiative dedicated to documenting civilian casualties resulting from the ongoing conflict in Iraq, particularly since the 2003 military intervention. Established by a group of concerned volunteers from the UK and USA, IBC strives to ensure that the human cost of war does not go overlooked. The organization maintains a comprehensive and continuously updated database that meticulously records violent deaths, relying on cross-checked media reports, official documents, and data from hospitals and NGOs.

IBC's mission is anchored in a commitment to accuracy and transparency, with each entry detailing the number of victims, the time and location of each incident, and often additional contextual information about the victims and the circumstances surrounding their deaths. The project also serves to honor the courage of journalists who risk their lives to report on these events. Supported mainly by individual donations and various foundations dedicated to peace-building, IBC plays an essential role in raising awareness of the impact of armed conflict on civilian lives.
