The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is a nonprofit organization that plays a critical role in managing the electric power grid for over 27 million customers, accounting for approximately 90% of Texas's electric load. As an independent system operator, ERCOT oversees the scheduling of electricity across a vast network of more than 54,100 miles of transmission lines and 1,250 generation units. The council also engages in financial settlements for the competitive wholesale market, providing essential services such as retail switching for 8 million premises in competitive areas.
