The Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) is a government initiative in Andhra Pradesh aimed at empowering urban poor, especially women. Established in 2007, MEPMA focuses on poverty alleviation through innovative strategies and services. The mission facilitates the formation of Self Help Groups (SHGs) to promote internal savings and provide access to credit. With over 23.94 lakh women participating in 2.33 lakh SHGs, MEPMA fosters financial independence and sustainable livelihoods.

The mission also addresses the needs of differently-abled individuals and offers capacity-building programs through collaborations with various institutions. Access to bank loans is a cornerstone of MEPMA’s support, having disbursed over ₹25,155 crore to SHGs, helping members escape predatory lending. Additionally, MEPMA operates initiatives like Sthree Nidhi for credit funding and offers social security programs, ensuring a safety net for its beneficiaries. With a vision to enhance quality of life for 30 lakh families, MEPMA is committed to creating resilient, self-sufficient urban communities.
